When you fish in Key West, you are very lucky indeed. It’s not just because the island is warm and beautiful all the time. Not just because there have been over 600 IGFA world record fish caught in the surrounding waters. No, not even because you’re going to be on vacation while you are here. But because, Key West is home to the worlds third largest living coral reef . (Only Austrailia and Belieze have larger ones.)
This gives our Captains yet another venue in which they can make your dreams come true. Reef fishing can yield some of the best table fare imaginable . Grouper, snapper, mackerel , and others are routinely taken for dinner. In the photo above Captain Gary of the Captain Conch holds a 18 lb. Black Grouper caught on light tackle last week. Dinner for six coming right up! With hundreds of different species living on our reef, you never really know what you’ll catch next.
As an added bonus, most of Key West’s world famous restaurants will cook your catch for you. That’s right just bring them the already filleted fish, (our Mates provide this service), and they will prepare it for you most any way you like it. It’s a really fun thing to do. Talk about fresh? And the stories, oh my.
